Becoming an Official WEG/AIM Volunteer

Official WEG/AIM volunteers work at the Kentucky Horse Park or staging areas for people going to/from the park. Each volunteer commits to work a minimum of four 6-hour shifts.

There are two volunteer categories. Most of us will fall into the "general" category, even if we are enthusiasts of a particular horse sport.

Competition Support Volunteer positions require prior experience with a particular horse sport or particular competition-related expertise. This select group includes jobs such as farriers, stable managers, stewards, show judges, timekeepers, scorers, or serious competiton riders.

General Volunteers serve in numerous capacities other than those of the Competition Support Volunteers.

There is a wide variety of jobs available, and you will have the opportunity to choose a job and shift best suited to your schedule and talents when the list is posted. Volunteer jobs include numerous aspects of hospitality, including a special "greeter" position, which is the "first impression" someone gets of the Games at the parking area. (Volunteers will not be used to park cars.) Event services jobs include such activities as ushers and ticket takers. There are also lots of positions assisting other volunteers (volunteer check-in, uniform help, etc.)

There is a generous volunteer package that includes 16 days of general admission to the Park and all of the non-ticked activities, an official volunteer cap, shirt, and jacket supplied by Ariat, special volunteer-area parking close to the Park, and a meal during each shift.

If you would like to be an official volunteer, go to the WEG volunteer website. Select either General or Competition Volunteer. Then fill out the form.

When you get to the line that asks Company or Organization, please type in AIM.

When you have completed that, send us a note to let us know you have registered as a WEG volunteer. AIM is working closely with WEG on this to make the volunteer experience be meaningful and go smoothly.
