Ministry Opportunities at the World Equestrian Games

The World Equestrian Games (WEG) will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park from September 25th to October 10th, 2010. This will be the largest equine event ever held in the United States, and the largest sporting event ever held in Kentucky. More than 500 athletes and 600 horses will come from 50+ countries to compete in eight disciplines - dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, reining, para-equestrian, show jumping and vaulting.

The Games are held every four years, two years prior to the Olympic Games. This is the first time they've ever been held outside Europe. Organizers anticipate 600,000 tickets will be sold to the 16-day event.

AIM logo

AFFILIATED INTERNATIONAL MINISTRIES (AIM) is the umbrella organization coordinating Christian ministries at the time of the World Equestrian Games, and Equestrian Ministries International is a leader in AIM.

We are exited to have an opportunity to help out with the World Equestrian Games (WEG). Volunteers are the face of the Games and influence the experience of the people who attend. As Christians, our goal is to be of service by helping visitors from the U.S. and around the world have a quality experience.

There are two ways in which Equestrian Ministries members and friends can participate:

  • As an official WEG/AIM volunteer working at the Kentucky Horse Park or staging areas for people going to/from the park. (Equestrian Ministries International is working under the initials AIM to provide volunteers for the Games. If you sign up as an official WEG volunteer, be sure to type AIM in the blank that asks you if you are part of any organization.)
(Click here for official WEG/AIM volunteer information.)
  • As an AIM volunteer working before, during, and after the Games at the Horse Park, other venues associated with the Games, or in support roles.
(Click here for official AIM volunteer information.)

As soon as jobs have been defined, an email listing them will be sent to people who have signed up as either WEG/AIM volunteers or AIM volunteers. Volunteers will have the opportunity to choose the jobs and shifts they would like to work.

Every effort will be made to help with locating housing, transportation, etc. for volunteers. A project like this has an enormous number of moving parts, and the answers to many of your questions aren't available yet. By signing up as a volunteer, though, you'll have access to the latest information as soon as it's available.

It will be exciting to be in Kentucky during this special event. But even if you are not going to the games, you can still be an official AIM volunteer by being on the prayer team or the giving team. As you can imagine, prayer and donations are needed to help us prepare for and coordinate so many people.
